DH is a huge fan of Tolkien's Lord of the Rings, so when a couple of years ago the One Ring Scarf pattern was published, I knew right away that a scarf like that would make a perfect gift for him. It's double knitting, a technique I like and when I started in August I was sure to have in done for Christmas. Hm, maybe a bit to ambitious? Because that was in 2011, lol. Even though it's not difficult to knit, you need some concentration for the pattern, so it's not a project for 'waiting room' knitting. In addition I only worked on it when I wasn't working on a sample and also only when Ulli wasn't around... When I noticed back in 2011 that I wouldn't make it for Christmas, I just decided to finish it for the next year... good plan, but ahem, I picked the project up again way too late with no chance of finishing it for Christmas and all that got added were a couple of rows. And the same happened in 2013, in 2014 and la la la in 2015 too...
This summer though, I couldn't stand the nagging feeling I always got when I came across the particular project bag any longer and made a 'deal' with myself (or maybe I should say I 'threatened' myself?): Finish for Christmas or frog the whole thing! Which would have been a pity, since by that time about half of the scarf was done. And obviously I really couldn't stand the idea of frogging it, because ta-dah, look:
Done, washed, blocked and already wrapped - just on time to put it under the tree tonight. Whoot! So happy I finally got this done! The name I gave the thing 'the scarf to rule my life for years' (referring to the inscription on the ring 'One Ring to rule them all, One Ring to find them, One Ring to bring them all and in the darkness bind them') tells you all you need to know about how much of an effort it was. Now, Ulli better likes it when he opens his gifts tonight... ;-)
