Summer in Germany and not much time to be around and show you something new, fresh off the needles. And no, this is not because I (like so many others) don’t like to knit when it’s too warm. I actually don’t mind and could knit warm cabled sweaters no matter what season. But there’s always so much to do around the house during the summer. This year, after procrastinating for what feels like ages, I finally decided to paint our barn doors. Why was I so hesitant to start, you ask? Well, it doesn’t make much sense to put new paint on several layers of weather-worn old paint, right? And I knew I’d be in trouble when I try to get the old stuff off… and how I right I was. I tried any method I could think of, but it came down to using a hot-air gun and a scraper and peel the stuff off square centimetre by square centimetre . Hm…

This is the work of, ah, better not think about it, but quite some hours. And every evening after a couple of hours doing that ‘wonderful’ job, my shoulders usually 'ask' me, if I really think that knitting is necessary or if I shouldn’t collapse onto the sofa, lol. So no evening knitting time for me these days, just a couple of rows with my morning coffee. And once again I was reminded, why I love to knit small and quick projects… the feeling of accomplishment is just wonderful. :) Look, here’s the project from this morning

A square for a baby blanket we work on as a group as a gift for Laurel, whose boy is due in October. The pattern is ‘Oh, Nuts!’, one of the adorable animal patterns (for wash cloth or bibs) by Elaine Fitzpatrick. Have a look at her wonderful work, here: Down Cloverlaine. The blanket will be made entirely with squares using her patterns, and I can’t wait to see the ‘zoo’ blanket finished. Says she who volunteered to assemble the blanket – but I’m convinced the barn doors will shine like new long before it’s time to do that. I better go and get my hot-air gun going…
